HOUSE MUSIC

Back Home?

The House is a musical genre which belongs  to electronic dance music (EDM), born in Chicago Nightclubs in the early 1980s. The forerunner of the genre was the disc jockey David Mancuso who, with his private evenings at the club The Loft, influenced DJs like  Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan and Nicky Siano, they were the first, at the beginning of 70s, to test new musical ways such as the “ beat matching” which consists in bringing at the same "time" two discs played consecutively, then move from one to another making continue the music without interruptions.

Another important innovation of the Gallery was to use a console equipped with three plates: the first two used for the discs while the third allowed to enter in the effects songs and sounds chosen by Djs.

The first house music record label was  the Trax Records, born in 1985.

1988 was one of the most important year for the house music because Inner City and S’Express brought this genre to the international success  but the most active house music produce was Todd Terry with “Can you party”, “ A Day in the life”.

In Europe house music began to spread in 1987 in England when Paul Oakenflord  and Danny  Rampling brought the sound of Ibiza to english discos and four years later the Ministry of Sound became one of the most important in England .
